Recently, I had the rare opportunity of participating in the Fukushima Support Tour. As a Chinese University student studying in Shanghai, I feel very honored to have been able to take part. I thought after the tsunami and nuclear power plant accident, Fukushima had been transformed into a devastated wasteland.

However, after traveling to Fukushima in person, I was very moved by its beauty.

Rich autumn leave colours, peaceful towns, relaxing onsen, splendid dinners, passionate locals…

I was particularly impressed by the historical atmosphere at Tsurugajo Castle. It seemed as though the castle was standing in the rain, whispering to us the will of the samurai that has been passed down since many hundred years ago.

I think that through interacting with the guides, and our farmstay experience during the tour has gotten me closer to Japanese people. Their passion and precision, and their positive attitudes towards life left a great impression on me.

The recovery in Fukushima has progressed so much; it’s hard to believe there was ever a disaster. Fukushima is full of wonderful people, and beautiful scenery that can take anyone’s breath away. I know that this tour will stay in my memories for a long time. I’m grateful to everyone I met during the tour!
