Going to Fukushima, I am not going to lie I had heard some not so positive rumors about what was going on in the prefecture. People would tell me, “be careful of the food that you eat and the water you drink,” and “watch out you might get radiation poisoning!” Having been able to go there and see all of the work that the government, farmers, university students, community and many other different groups of people have done has banished all of these rumors from my mind. From the farmers that created an agreement to get their crops screened at the Fukushima Agricultural Center, to the Aquamarine in Iwaki working so hard to get back on its feet so as to give hope back to its people, to the Fukushima University students whom are in completely different majors but yet take the time to volunteer to help out in the 2011 disaster relief. This great amount of recovery was made possible not only by the Fukushima government or by one particular group of people, but by many helping hands. There is still a lot to be done, such as researching and finding efficient sources of renewable energy or just cleaning up areas that were affected. That is why I encourage those in Fukushima and around the world to lend a helping hand in whatever way they can.
