I traveled to Tokyo two years ago, and last year, I studied for three and a half months in Shiga Prefecture, so I was excited to see a new part of Japan, and, personally, had no worries about living in Fukushima.
However, I was afraid of what other people might think. “How will I explain this to everyone?”
My boyfriend, who has also studied Japanese language and culture, knew a lot about Fukushima already. He said it’s a very beautiful place and the people have been working hard to recover their home. I’ve only been here for about three months, but I already know how true that is. Every day the staff and teachers from the three schools I work at talk and laugh with me to make sure I am enjoying my life here. I am able to tell everyone at home that I am very happy and safe because the people here are all so friendly and hard working.
