What is your impression of Fukushima?

How do you feel about your placement in Fukushima?

Why Fukushima?

Those are the questions I often get when someone finds out that I’m moving to Fukushima. I could not give them a proper answer then but after living here for four months I feel that I can. I feel Fukushima is a fabulous place to live or even visit where there is a good mix of modern and traditional things to do. I have not missed home all too much since moving here for my placement; everyone I have had the pleasure to meet have been very hospitable and simply very nice people to be around. Finally why Fukushima? Well I did not really get a choice but I am glad I came here. Food is great, people are great and nothing beats seeing paddy fields and mountains in your backyard.  

I sincerely hope that in the near future you will visit Fukushima and see what all the fuss is really about for yourself. It is a really great area to visit and even volunteer as there are many areas that have yet to fully recover.

P.S. Make sure you try Shirakawa city’s famous ramen noodle.
