Fukushima – it’s probably the most famous prefecture in Japan; a name that inspires fear in many and pity in others.
What does it inspire in me? Love.
Fukushima is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I would not give up the experience of living here for anything in the world.
Can you believe me? I know what you’ve heard. I hear it often from people – both Japanese and non-Japanese – who are surprised and even a little scared when I tell them where I live.
What I ask of you is to listen to the other voices, the quieter ones like mine that try to drown the lies, rumors and harsh embellishments. The accident happened, but everyone in Fukushima is desperately trying to move on. Come and visit! You will see a beautiful place filled with some of the strongest, most beautiful people you have ever met.
