Population： 2.24 million people (As of 2025/ About 1.3 times that of Fukushima Prefecture) Area：7,234 square kilometres (about half the size of Fukushima Prefecture) Capital：Vitoria-Gasteiz Key Features:  (1) It has one of Spain's leading port and industrial cities. (2) The main industries are the automobile industry, the aircraft industry, energy industry and machine tool industry. In those fields, about 20 industrial cluster have been established. (3) It has a large concentration of industries related to wind power generation, including international wind turbine manufacturers as well as other related companies.

Renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding with Basque Country (April 2023)

Prefectural Governor Uchibori and Prime Minister Ulkry renewed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and hydrogen.

Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Basque Country (October 2019)

Governor Uchibori and Prime Minister Urkullu have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding cooperation in the field of renewable energy in order to further expand exchanges in this field of industry.

Signing of an MoU between the Basque Energy Cluster (BEC) and EnergyAgency.FUKUSHIMA (EAF)（May 2019）

On 30th May 2019 an MoU has been signed between BEC, a non-profit organisation with the mission of improving global competitiveness of the Basque energy sector companies, and EAF which promotes the development of renewable energy in Fukushima Prefecture. An international wind turbine maker and many related companies are based in the Basque Country, an industrial region in northern Spain with several harbours.
